In 2008, The festival theme was Northern Design, and consisted of 27 events in total, a series of 3 talks in association with Newcastle College, 3 architectural tours, a fashion show, a workshop, a bus tour around galleries taking part in Sunderland, Durham and Washington, and 18 exhibitions. We had 18,861 visitors to this years festival.
This year, for the first time the Design Event Mart, a curated selling exhibition, was one of the main highlights of the festival. 25 local designers featured their work over one weekend at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Making invaluable contacts with the public, gaining commissions for work, selling their products and networking with each other, the event was a resounding success. Over £5,000 in sales were made and over £2,000 in future commissions has been estimated.
