Design Event continue partnership with Crafts Council

We are very excited to be working once again with the Crafts Council on their Hothouse Programme. As the Crafts Council’s creative and business development programme for up-and-coming makers; Hothouse has quickly established itself as a gold-standard professional development programme. Over the last five years more than 200 participants have taken part in the programme with 90% of makers in 2016 stating that the programme had enabled them to think differently about the direction of their career.

This year the Crafts Council has partnered with 24 organisations across England and Scotland including Manchester School of Art, Craft Scotland, University of Brighton,  The National Centre for Craft and Design and Design Event. The 35 maker businesses selected already display a high level of technical craftsmanship and originality. Hothouse will further equip them with the business and creative skills needed to run a successful and sustainable craft business.

Participants from the North include Christina Hesford a hand-weaver based in Stockton on Tees. Her work explores the traces and experiences of humanity’s passage on Earth using materials ranging from hand-dyed silk and linen, to de-commissioned fire hoses.
