Bettina Nissen Design
Bettina Nissen Design is a UK based design company that creates
contemporary, quality products with a twist. The designs extract everyday
symbols and routines, recontextualising them into original furniture and
objects. Playfully combining the handmade with new technology, the
innovative products generate subtle shifts in our perception of daily life.
Cleverly joining simple, functional forms with humour in innovative objects,
Bettina Nissen develops designs for both limited edition as well as
manufacture. The variety of products includes smaller furniture units, light
fixtures, home accessories and tableware.
Based in the Mushroom Works, a group of creative studios in Ouseburn, Nissen works with local fabricators to produce her designs in a diversity of
quality materials such as felt, ceramics, plastics and metal. With their
minimal yet playful aesthetics, her designs are suitable for both the
domestic as well as the contract market.
Born in Germany in 1978, Bettina Nissen is stimulated by the world of
products and our interaction with them. She earned her MA in Interior and
Furniture Design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design
Halle and studied at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.
Nissen recently worked for Boym Partners in New York and her designs have been exhibited internationally in Milan, Berlin and the UK. With work
experience as product designer as well as project manager she developed a substantial knowledge and understanding of the design industry before
setting up Bettina Nissen Design.
