The Design Event MART is a curated selling exhibition of new work by leading designers from the North East
In 2008 the Design Event MART attracted 2612 visitors over 2 days and we hope to attract over 3.500 for 2009, by extending the event to 3 days plus a VIP opening event. The MART is curated to ensure a high quality range of innovative products, and will build on the success of the Design Event MART in 2008.
We are looking for innovative new work to form part of the Design Event MART 2009.
Exhibition Fees
In 2008 the MART was a trial as this type of event had not been done before at such a high profile venue. In order to continue the MART as a 3 day event, the fee to exhibit is £100*, based on feedback from exhibitors in 2008. Obviously this by no means covers the cost of the event, but provides a contribution towards this. *However, we realise that with the current financial climate, budget’s are tight and we are therefore reducing the fee to £75 for this year only to make it more accessible. In addition to this we also have 5 bursary places for individuals who are working in the North East and graduated within the last 2 years.
What this gives you
In 2008 sales for most designers ranged from £200-£1,000. – with £5,000 in sales totalled over the full event. Not to mention follow up contacts and commissions that occurred from people meeting with the designers over the two day period.
Design Event will design the exhibition including display stands for your work. This will be agreed in discussion with yourself and the exhibition designer, to tie in with the overall look and feel of the event.Signage will be provided by Design Event, and a catalogue featuring all exhibitors and direct contact details will be produced. The catalogue will be distributed to both national and regional press, sent out to our database and quantities supplied to the designers themselves to distribute to their own mailing lists. There will be links from our website to each of the designers websites.
Design Event are working with PR Girl, a national PR company with established links to both consumer and design trade press, and who have worked for a number of product designers and Tent London over the last few years. Design Event are also working with O Communications, a local PR company to maximise regional press opportunities.The Festival will open with a formal event which will take place at BALTIC at this exhibition so your work will be previewed by regional and national press, funders and creative ambassadors, architects, interior designers and retailers.

How to submit your products
Please send images of work with a descriptor of the product, pricing and details of it’s innovation.
If the product is in development, please send either sketches or draft images of the work with timescales of development of the finished product.
